What is the service life of a product?
Our products are designed with durability in mind, following the standards set by the EN 1990 Eurocodes. In these codes, "design working life" is defined as the period for which a structure or product is to be used for its intended purpose without major repair being necessary.
Our products are made to be disassembled and reused, which means that their lifetime is 10 to 25 years, as indicated by Eurocodes category 2 (this classification does not include accessories).
The durability of materials is closely linked to the use and environmental conditions in which they are used. At Tecrostar, we recognise that some environmental conditions can be more challenging than others. To enhance and prolong the service life of our products, especially in harsh environmental conditions, there is the option of applying waterproof treatment, which protects the structures from adverse weather conditions.
Warranty periods
Our quality team has created environmental categories to describe the most common situations when installing our products. This is because our products are made of different materials, mainly wood and metal. Each material follows different standards, so the classification of the environmental conditions in which they are used does not match exactly. Read the product types and environmental conditions categories sections to find out which one your installation belongs to.
The table shows the length of your product’s warranty according to the type and environmental conditions category where you have installed it.
It is important to note that the actual durability of our products far exceeds these guarantees.
Therefore, our warranty covers the products within a period of time in which no major maintenance is required. However, the indications in the Use and Maintenance manuals must be followed, which set out visual inspections, verification of loads and deformations, cleaning and care.

(**) If you are going to install any of our products with lacquered steel parts without waterproof treatment in damp indoor or outdoor conditions, we recommend applying BLACK lacquer / paint, as dark colours tend to perform better and better conceal the appearance of rust and can help protect the aesthetics of the product in corrosive conditions.

Environmental conditions categories
The performance of TecroStar products depends to a large extent on the environmental conditions to which they are exposed, as installation inside a temperature-controlled room (which is the majority of cases) is very different to an outdoor installation in a place near the coast with humid and salty environmental conditions.
At TecroStar we have defined six types of environmental conditions, depending on how they affect wood and steel:
Category | Indoor (***) | Outdoor | Humidity level/ Climate | Salinity level | Chemical air pollution |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
I1. Dry indoor | Buildings with heating and clean atmospheres. For example: houses, offices, shops, schools, hotels... The wood is not exposed to weather or moisture. |
- | No humidity | No salinity | Low |
I2. Wet Indoor | Unheated buildings where condensation may occur. For example: warehouses, sports centres (****) The wood is not exposed to the weather, but high humidity levels may occasionally occur. |
- | Moderate humidity | No salinity | Low |
E2. Dry Indoor | - | Outdoor areas in dry climates with low rainfall, such as dry rural areas. The wood is exposed to the elements and may come into contact with water, but without pooling. |
Low humidity. Dry climate of inland areas. | No salinity | Low-pollution atmospheres |
E3. Wet outdoor | Indoor premises with high levels of humidity and condensation (****). | Outdoor areas in humid climates with heavy rainfall, such as mountain areas. The wood is exposed to the elements and may come into contact with water, but without pooling. |
Medium level of humidity. Climates with heavy rainfall in inland areas. | No salinity | Low-pollution atmospheres |
E4. Wet With salinity outdoor | - | Industrial areas, coastal areas or near chemical plants. The wood is exposed to the elements in saline climates and may come into contact with water, but without pooling. |
High humidity.Coastal climates. | With salinity | Polluted atmosphere (usually sulphur dioxide) |
E5. Highly Corrosive | - | Buildings or areas with almost permanent condensation, and with high levels of pollution. Wood is in constant contact with water or soil. |
Extreme humidity | Low | Industrial areas and harsh atmosphere |
(***) Bear in mind that very harsh indoor environments can be assimilated to some outdoor environments.
(****) Very humid indoor environments, with a high level of condensation, should be assimilated to E3.
